A two-month voyage through the Land Down Under is being halted following the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a distant island.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back several hours later after the ship staff realised the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt discovered her body the next day.

Authorities are looking into the incident, together with police and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and personnel on the ship were notified that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that passengers would be issued a full refund, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also released an updated communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Master" preventing any further travelers from entering the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the vessel in the Australian city upon its arrival.

The ship originally sailed from the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the moment of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the first stop on the journey.

Passengers on the vessel - who generally pay tens of thousands of currency to take part in the expedition - were taken there for a daily excursion with the choice of walking or underwater exploration.

The child of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "surprised and grieved that the liner left the location after an planned tour without my mum".

Through her comments, she characterized her mother as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a member of a hiking group.

"From the little details we have been provided, it seems that there was a failure of care and basic judgment," she stated.

She continued that she wished the inquiry would be able to identify what "the company should have performed that might have protected Mum's being".

"According to reports from the police that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum fell ill on the hill climb," she revealed.

"She was asked her to return, unescorted. Then the ship sailed away, reportedly without performing a headcount.

"At a certain moment in that chain of events, or soon after, mum passed away, without company."

Company Response

In a statement, the Head affirmed that the company was "working closely with officials to assist their examination".

He said that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had offered its total backing to the loved ones.

Cruise Industry Standards

The vessel caters for up to one hundred twenty guests with forty-six staff, according to corporate details. It was specially constructed to access isolated locations of the Australian shoreline and is equipped with "small boats" - compact vessels used to take travelers on land visits.

Events like this are uncommon, and liners have systems to document which travelers are getting on or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] onboard really isn't an option," one expert commented.

Shipping companies regard these processes extremely carefully and have "clever tech in place to avoid such events from taking place," the specialist continued.

"This seems to be presumably a surprising - and unfortunate - one-off."
